Electric vehicle owners can apply for a road tax exemption from February 15!
According to the Minister of Transport, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, electric vehicles and vehicles for the disabled will be exempted from Road Tax. The Road Tax exemption for electric vehicles will be available from February 15, 2022 to December 31, 2025, and for vehicles for the disabled from March 15, 2022.
As long as the vehicle you drive is powered by a battery or fuel cell, you will be eligible for the road tax exemption. The exemption does not apply to vehicles powered by gasoline or diesel hybrids (Hybrid).
If the owner of an electric vehicle has already paid road tax, the owner can claim the road tax rebate at the nearest Land Transport Authority counter.
In addition, vehicles that require special modifications to accommodate people with disabilities are eligible for a road tax exemption. As for vehicles without special modifications, only locally assembled (CKD) and domestically produced vehicles are exempted from paying road tax.
The vehicle must be registered in the name of a person with a disability and the owner must have a Kad OKU issued by the Social Welfare Bureau (JKM). Vehicles owned by parents, guardians or spouses of disabled persons are also exempted from road tax.
