Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong denies that if the driver involved in the car accident comes from the same driving academy, the permit of the relevant driving academy will be revoked!
Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong pointed out that the proposal to cancel the Driving Academy Pass due to a traffic accident is the personal opinion of the Director-General of JPJ, not the policy of the Ministry of Transport. Any recommendations to guide policy direction and improve the situation are thoroughly researched by the Ministry of Transport in advance.
Previously, Datuk Zailani Hashim, director of the Road Transport Department Malaysia (JPJ), revealed that drivers involved in traffic accidents and violations will be tracked. If the drivers involved are found to be from the same driving academy, the relevant driving academy’s license may be revoked.
In addition, JPJ is working on new technologies for vehicle registration, which include installing RFID, QR codes, or chips on license plates or road tax. RFID will effectively improve the efficiency of automated law enforcement, and can accurately read vehicle registration information.
The lack of standardization of license plate specifications by law enforcement authorities in Malaysia and the frequent appearance of vehicles with fancy and peculiar license plates has made it difficult for the government to implement an automatic license plate recognition system.
As early as 2005, the government had plans to launch license plates that support RFID. RFID will contain the information of the vehicle and the owner, which will effectively prevent the incident of car theft. However, there has been no progress on the plan so far.
