25/12/2021

There have been 62 cases of Omicron in Malaysia, one of which is a suspected case of local infection.

The Minister of Health Carey held an online press conference on the morning of December 25 and pointed out that from December 15 to December 21, the Medical Research Institute (IMR) conducted genetic analysis and testing on 145 confirmed samples of coronary disease and found 60 of them. One sample may be an Omicron case.

Subsequently, IMR confirmed on December 24 that 45 of the 60 cases were Omicron cases. This has led to a total of 62 Omicron confirmed cases in our country’s research, 61 of which were imported from abroad, that is, found in people returning from abroad. There is 1 suspected case of indigenous infection.

There was a local case suspected of Omicron in Sarawak. This Chinese man’s family worked for an engineering company in Sarawak for 3 years and did not go abroad during this period. The man developed fever and cough on December 13 and was diagnosed with coronary disease after examination. He was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital Isolation and Treatment Center (PKRC) on December 20. Confirmed to be infected with Omicron on December 23.

The source of infection in this suspected local case of Omicron in Sarawak has yet to be determined, and community transmission in Sarawak cannot be ruled out.
