24/12/2021

Kindergarten and international schools will be able to start classes on January 2 and 3 as scheduled.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Education (KPM), the opening of primary and secondary schools registered with the Ministry will be delayed by one week to give flood victims more time to deal with the aftermath of the disaster.

Primary and secondary schools in Group A states (Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah) were supposed to start on January 2. But with the Ministry’s announcement, it means that classes in these states will not start until January 9.

Primary and secondary schools in Group B states (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Group B, Perlis, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya) will also start one week later, i.e. on January 10.

It is also pointed out in the announcement that international and foreign schools will be able to start classes according to their respective school calendars, while kindergartens registered with the Ministry of Education can start classes on January 2 or 3.

It is understood that 475 educational institutions have been requisitioned as temporary evacuation centers (PPS) or have been damaged by flooding.
