Ministry of Communications to introduce 5G network on November 10!

10/11/2021

The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will be launching the 5G network on November 10.

According to a message from the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Anuar Musa, the 5G network in Malaysia will be launched on November 10. Malaysia’s 5G network will be launched first in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Segawa.

The 5G network will be launched in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Saisiyat, and will then be gradually extended to the densely populated cities in the five states of Penang, Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak next year. These cities have about 36% of the population of Malaysia.

When compared to our neighbors, our 5G network rollout seems to be slightly behind. Not only that, but unlike in the past, Malaysia’s 5G network is being built by a single company model, namely National Digital Bhd (DNB). This company is responsible for building, holding and operating the country’s 5G network. Telecommunications companies can only lease the 5G infrastructure from DNB to provide the 5G network.

In a previous interview with The Star, DNB’s CEO mentioned that the company will provide a minimum of 100Mbps 5G network. This means that once the 5G network is officially launched, users will be able to enjoy a minimum of 100Mbps of 5G network experience, but this is also based on the 5G network package launched by each telecommunications company.
