Earn up to RM1169 per month to qualify for welfare assistance from the Social Welfare Department!
Finance Minister Tunku Zafrul stated in the 2022 Budget that the Social Welfare Board (JKM) will adopt a new Poverty Line Level (PGK), which means a monthly income of not more than RM1169 will qualify for welfare assistance from the Social Welfare Board.
The government currently uses the 2016 poverty line level, which is RM980, but will adopt the 2019 poverty line level of RM1169 starting in 2022. The purpose of this measure is to extend social protection and ensure that assistance reaches those who need it.
The Government has allocated an additional RM200 million to enable more people to benefit from the Welfare Bureau’s welfare assistance. A total of RM2.4 billion has been set aside for welfare assistance, which is expected to benefit 440,000 families.
The welfare assistance under the Social Welfare Bureau includes Bantuan Warga Emas (Welfare Assistance for the Aged), Bantuan Kanak-Kanak (Welfare Assistance for Destitute Families), Bantuan Kanak-Kanak (Welfare Assistance for Children), and Welfare Assistance for the Disabled.
