Government has set up Digital National Berhad (DNB), a company that will be responsible for building, holding and operating the country’s 5G network. Telecommunications companies will only be able to lease the 5G infrastructure from DNB to provide the 5G network.

In an interview with The Star, DNB’s chief executive mentioned that the company will offer a minimum of 100Mbps 5G network. This means that once the 5G network is officially launched, subscribers will be able to enjoy a minimum of 100Mbps 5G network experience.

DNB’s CEO also noted that 5G base stations have already been launched in Bukit Tunku and that 500 5G base stations will be launched in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya by the end of the year, which will cover 10% of the population in Malaysia. DNB expects to build over 10,000 5G base stations between 2025 and 2030, covering 90% of the population. The frequency bands for 5G networks in Malaysia are 700MHz, 3.5GHz and 28GHz.。 Users will be able to roam locally using the 5G network as long as the handset they are using supports the 5G network.
