Other than Netflix, HULU’s original films are highly rated as well, such as “Little Fires Everywhere” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” are one of the must-watch film. Recently, HULU released a horror series “Monsterland”, it will be broadcast on FX Channel from February 17th. You can watch it on Astro or Unifi TV!
“Monsterland” is adapted from Nathan Ballingrud’s horror short story collection “North American Lake Monsters”, with “Preachers” and “The Neon Demon” writer Mary Laws as the chief creator, and Babak Anvari as executive producer, a total of 8 episodes.
The series was filmed with a single story for each episode. The themes covered mermaids, fallen angels, werewolves and other beasts. The appearance of these creatures forced the residents of Louisiana to re-examine their lives. It also revealed that there is actually only one thin line between human and creatures.
The life of the protagonist in each episode is undesirable. The first episode “Port Fourchon, LA” tells story about a 19-year-old single mother Toni who works as a waiter in a restaurant, and takes care of her children after work. This life makes her feel miserable, with no way out of this dark path.
When Brian, the protagonist of episode 8 “Newark, New Jersey” took care of his daughter, her daughter suddenly disappeared. Afterward, he began to blame himself and despair, and it was difficult to continue living with his wife.
Although “Monsterland” is about monsters, these monsters actually represent the inner world of the protagonists to a certain extent. When they fight with monsters, they are actually fighting against their own guilt, loneliness, and powerlessness. The beginning of the series mentioned, “When you were born, you have thousands of possibilities. You may become a doctor, a lawyer or even a bank robber. You will also have a variety of emotions, and your lifestyle each day will gradually form the current you.”
This also shows that a person’s personality and choices will affect one’s life. When your life is unsatisfactory, your inner monsters will slowly breed, and finally consume yourself into the darkness.
Actors participating in the film include Taylor Schiling, Jonathan Tucker, Kelly Marie Tran, Bill Camp, Mike Colter and Kaitlyn Dever. “Monsterland” will be broadcasting on FX Channel from February 17th at 10 pm. Astro users can watch it on Channel 713 and Unifi TV users can watch it on Channel 454.
