6 domestic telecommunications companies have agreed to take a stake in DNB!

15/08/2022

Domestic telecommunications companies have agreed to take a stake in DNB, and these companies have until August 31 to agree to the terms of DNB or risk losing access to 5G.

Six of the country’s major telecoms companies have agreed to take a stake in National Digital Berhad (DNB), according to a message from Finance Minister, with Maxis and U Mobile being the last two to agree to take a stake in DNB, having agreed to do so only last week.

Celcom, Digi, YTL and TM had all earlier accepted the government’s offer and agreed to take a stake in DNB.

The telcos are currently negotiating how much they will have to pay to use the 5G network that DNB will roll out, and they have until 31 August 2022 to agree to the terms before the deal can be completed.

A number of foreign telcos were planning to enter the Malaysian mobile network market, but the government’s policy was to give domestic telcos priority. If domestic telcos try to delay or block the negotiations, the government may allow these foreign telcos to enter the Malaysian market.
