4 things you must know before using 5G networks!

21/12/2021

YES and Unifi Mobile have announced that they will be participating in the 5G network set up by DNB, with YES becoming the first telecom company to launch a 5G network in Malaysia, while Unifi Mobile has yet to announce the details of the 5G package.

There are 4 things you must know before you can use the 5G network.

1. Replace your 5G SIM card

According to the news issued by YES, users need to buy a new 5G SIM card to use YES’s 5G network. There are currently 2 5G packages available, YES Prepaid FT5G Unlimited and YES Postpaid FT5G RM49. After purchasing a YES 5G SIM card, users can choose to keep their existing mobile number and switch to the 5G package.

2. 5G-enabled handsets

You must use a 5G-enabled phone to experience the 5G network. Currently, neither iPhone nor Samsung’s latest handsets support 5G network in Malaysia. You can only use Android phones such as Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo, Nokia and Oppo to experience the 5G network.

3. Dialing phone signal downgrade 4G

When making a call on a 5G network, the phone’s signal will be automatically downgraded to a 4G network. This is the same as the previous 4G network, dialing in non-VOLTE mode, the network will be automatically downgraded to H+.

4. 5G Network Coverage

Currently, the 5G network coverage in Malaysia is only available in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and some parts of Sai Cheng, so if you are not in these areas, you will not be able to experience the 5G network for the time being.
