A few years ago there was a story of a fake tow truck operator in our country. Two men disguised as outsourced tow truck operators for a bank were about to tow away a Chinese woman’s car. In order to avoid similar incidents, the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs (MTCA) issued a reminder to the public on the procedures for legal towing.
According to the information issued by the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs, there are four circumstances under which a tow truck operator will not be able to tow a car. The first situation is between 9pm and 8.59am, when a tow truck operator cannot tow a vehicle.
The second situation is when the vehicle is parked in a fenced home, unless the tow truck operator has a court order to do so, as this is a private space.
The third situation is when the car loan is more than 75% amortized, unless a court order has been issued. In the fourth case, the tow truck operator must produce a court order or Permit EPS or the tow truck will not be allowed to tow the vehicle.
