3 Months of School Class Assessment Mastery of Lower Lifetime Literacy and Numeracy Levels

18/03/2024

The Ministry of Education will conduct a class assessment three months after the first grade students have been in school to identify students who have not yet mastered literacy and numeracy and who need appropriate initial intervention programs to address the issue of student dropout.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek pointed out that the above is 1 of the measures to intervene in the curriculum program, while the other 3 measures are the 3rd edition of the Primary Standard Curriculum Matching Document (PSCMD), Parent Friendly Class Assessment Report (PFCR), and the upgraded version of the Primary Standard Curriculum Matching Document (PSCMD) (reviewed in 2017).

The Minister said at today’s press conference that the curriculum is dynamic and progressive, and needs to be improved from time to time to cope with present and future needs.

“The views of all stakeholders, including parents, are an important source of information for curriculum development.”

She noted that the Ministry of Education is also simultaneously taking steps forward with the implementation of the Academic Curriculum Framework 2027, which focuses on literacy, mathematics and characterization.

She said the MOE values the views of parents and the community on the curriculum and schooling; as well as the perplexities raised, such as curriculum content that students cannot cope with or is not age-appropriate for the students, class assessments (PBD) that are difficult to comprehend, and parents’ lack of access to class assessment reports.
