A 23-year-old Chinese boy from Johor, Jia Le Woh, has gained 170,000 followers in just 3 months by teaching everyone about easy-to-prepare Chinese food on TikTok with his friendly but “broken BM”!
He was surprised by the overwhelming response to the film, saying, “I’m not a famous person, this is my first time making a film in Malay and I may not be good enough in terms”.He also mocked himself as “Kawan yang Broken BM” (not fluent in Malay), but in fact the Malay language he spoke was easy to understand and friendly~.
There is no glamorous studio, there is just the usual kitchen at home, but it is this familiarity that has brought countless warmth and laughter to the audience.
In this three months, he has been demonstrating different Chinese dishes such as Watanho, Hokkien noodles, Fried rice, Lala rice noodles, Chi Kuh Teh, wonton noodles and more.
He said that there are many friends from Johor revealed that they like Chinese food very much, but they have no much choice for authentic Chinese food/restaurant. Therefore, he decided to produce this theme so that the Friends can cook Chinese food at home.
Nowadays, Jia Le’s video is not only a popular topic among people of all races in Malaysia, but also attracts the attention of audiences in other countries, such as Indonesia and Singapore.
