As at the end of 2022, there were RM14 billion unclaimed funds, of which RM3 billion has been returned to the rightful beneficiaries, leaving RM11 billion.
Generally, bank deposits that have been inactive for more than 7 years will be classified as unclaimed, as will unclaimed salaries, bonuses, commissions or insurance.
Want to know if you have unclaimed funds? You can find out through the Electronic Government Unclaimed Money Information System (eGUMIS), which is designed to make it easier for the public, especially those in rural areas, to access unclaimed money online.
If you find that you have unclaimed money, you can bring the relevant documents to the National Accounting Office to claim the money.
How to check if you have unclaimed funds online
Step 1: Visit https://egumis.anm.gov.my/register/refunduser to register for an account.
Step 2: Once you have completed your account registration, you can log in to your account by visiting https://egumis.anm.gov.my/login.
Step 3: Click on Carian Wang Tak Dituntut in the left column and enter your ID number and click on Cari.
Step 4: The system will show you if you have any unclaimed amount.
Step 5: If you find any unclaimed amount, you can download the form and go to Jabatan Akauntan Negara to claim the amount.
