10 myths about healthy living~ What you think is healthy may actually be bad for you

04/11/2021

Weight loss has become one of the most popular topics in health issues. However, everyone’s health is different and the same health information can become conflicting. Today, I would like to share with you 10 myths about healthy diet.

Weight loss principle: calories in – calories out
The calorie-in-calorie-out principle, i.e. eat as much as you move, is indeed an important weight loss principle, but there are some misconceptions and variables that are overlooked. Depending on genetics, health status and metabolic status, some people have a harder time losing weight than others.

High-fat foods are bad for your health
Fat is actually one of the components needed for health and life. In nutrition, some fats are good for your body! Of course, extreme high-fat diets are bad for your body, but you also need to consume the right amount of fat if you want to maintain a healthy weight.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
The importance of breakfast has long been emphasised, but the results of a recent study suggest that for adults, breakfast is not necessarily that important.

Cut back on the amount of food you eat to be healthy
Many people choose to eat less in order to boost their metabolism and lose weight, but this is not an appropriate way for healthy people to cope with their energy needs. There are many studies that show that maintaining certain eating patterns is best for health.

The balance of key nutrients is more important than the quality of food
Many athletic trainers emphasise the importance of a balanced intake of nutrients at the expense of what kind of food to consume. Balanced nutrition is important, but more important is the quality of the food.

A low-fat diet has health benefits
Foods labelled “diet”, “light”, “low-fat” or “fat-free” may contain high levels of added sugar and salt. Sometimes, foods that do not have the fat removed are healthier.

Taking nutritional supplements is a waste
For example, magnesium and vitamin B are essential for people with type 2 diabetes. There are specific nutritional supplements that are needed depending on age, condition and other factors.

A low-calorie diet is the best way to lose weight
Reducing your calorie intake is a great way to lose weight, but if you maintain an extreme low-calorie diet, it will affect your metabolism as your body adapts to it, so it will have a negative impact if you measure long-term results. In the long run, a moderate diet is the best way to lose weight.

You need to be slim for your health
Although obesity is one of the causes of various diseases, losing weight and becoming too thin does not mean being healthy. The most important thing is to eat nutritious food and maintain an energetic lifestyle. Maintaining the right amount of weight and fat is the only way to be healthy.

High cholesterol foods are not good for your health
Although high levels of bad cholesterol are not good for you, you should not ignore the importance of cholesterol to your body. In fact, foods high in cholesterol, such as eggs and yoghurt, are foods that promote good health through satiety and bring nutrients to the body that are difficult to replace with other foods.
