According to the information released by the Meteorological Department, as of 4:20pm on 22 July, there is one more area in Malaysia that has experienced a Category 1 heat wave, and that is Kinta, Perak.
An area is classified as a Category 1 hot weather area when it experiences a maximum temperature of 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
When an area experiences a maximum temperature of 37 to 40 degrees Celsius for 3 consecutive days, it will be classified as Level 2, which means a heat wave is on its way. When the maximum temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, the area will be classified as Level 3, which is a super heatwave.
People are urged to drink more water and reduce outdoor activities during this period. If you experience symptoms such as dizziness, burning skin, heavy sweating, pallor and a drop in blood pressure, you are suffering from heat stroke and should immediately stop what you are doing and go to a cooler place to rest and drink more water.
