One more long weekend off in 2 weeks!

This year, Haji falls on Sunday, July 10, so you will have one day off on Monday, July 11. If you add the weekly vacation on July 9 (Saturday), this will also create a 3-day long weekend holiday.

It should be noted that Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis have the following day of Haji, July 11 (Monday), as a holiday, so these four state territories will also be entitled to a compensatory holiday on July 11.

There is one other state that is not entitled to a compensatory holiday on Monday, July 11, and that is Johor. Sunday is not part of Johor’s weekly vacation.

Hajj is a Muslim holiday. It falls in the last month of the Islamic calendar, the tenth day of the month of Hajj, and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide for four consecutive days to commemorate the “sacrifice” of Ismail. Malaysia, like most Islamic countries, has made Hajj a national holiday.

In Malaysia, the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha is known as Hajj. It is also known as Hari Raya Korban or Hari Raya Aidiladha, which means sacrifice, i.e. the slaughter of animals as sacrifices to Allah.

The exact date of Hajj is determined by the date finally announced by the Religious Department after observing the phases of the moon from the first day of the month of Hajj. The official date of Hajj will then be announced on television and radio throughout the country.
